If you’re not sure, it’s pronounced sock-uh-knee. It comes from a Native American word ‘saconk’ which means ‘where two rivers run together’.

It was 1898 when four young businessmen opened the Saucony Shoe ManufacturIng Company in Pennsylvania. By 1910 they were making 800 pairs every day. Running was gaining in popularity and yet there were no high-performance running shoes available – people were running in leather, in spikes, or even barefoot. Saucony decided to make a shoe that would change the way that people run.

They made an iconic spiked running shoe in 1958, the 7446 spike, but runners needed something for the road. Frank Shorter won gold in the 1972 Olympic Marathon. He was the first American to win it in 64 years and his achievement enthused the nation into a running boom.

In 1977 Saucony shoes were awarded ‘best quality’ in consumer reports magazine and quickly became the most favoured running shoe of all time. From here it was all about the runner - making the shoes lighter and more comfortable, to keep people running and going further. Saucony have delivered innovation to the industry, their ultimate goal is to provide the very best running experience whatever your distance or motivation.
